Description of opportunity:

As a volunteer befriender it's about providing friendship and a listening ear to a vulnerable, isolated or lonely person living in our ILS over the telephone. Promoting independence and empowerment and reducing social isolation.

The volunteer befriender will:

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the organisation's confidentiality policy
  • Participate in training
  • Keep Independent living advisor up to date with progress of customers
  • Report Concerns, Safeguarding and required referrals to the ILA
  • Enjoy chatting about day to day events, with a view of increasing confidence levels and feelings of isolation.
  • Have good listening skills, by way of putting the tenant first and providing regular friendship support
  • Be non-judgemental
  • Promote independence & share skills to increase confidence & skill set
  • Provide emotional support with a view on promoting positive health & well being
  • Inform tenants of local activities

 

You will:

Skills / Qualifications:

• Understand the importance of safeguarding
• Enjoys talking on the telephone
• Enjoy helping others
• Have an interest in housing or social care
• Have a confident, outgoing personality (able to approach people)
• Has good communication skills
• Able to strike up a conversation easily with others
• Has hobbies/interest that you are able to share with others
• Is willing to undergo a DBS check
