Description of opportunity:

We are a very friendly team of volunteers and we would be very pleased to welcome you and any of your colleagues who would like to join you.

Background:
The Friends of Didsbury Park Volunteers group was formed in November 2014 and meets regularly every week come rain, hail or shine to work in Didsbury Park. To date our volunteers have undertaken over 38,000 hours of voluntary work to maintain and improve the park.

In July 2018 the Friends of Didsbury Park became a charity, primarily in order to access more funding available to charities so that more and more investment could be made into improvements in Didsbury Park.

Volunteering with us:
Our normal volunteering day is Monday between 9.30am and 1pm. We do this every week, no matter what the weather, and including Bank Holidays. It would be very easy for us to include you and any of your colleagues who wanted to join you, as part of the Monday morning volunteering activity.

Every week, following the volunteering session, an update report about the work we have undertaken is available for all to read on our website. The report is located in 'Brian's Blog' which can be accessed via the home page. Reading the blog is a good way to find out exactly the sort of work we are undertaking.

Here are a few examples of the sort of volunteering activities which are available for you to participate in:

  • planting bulbs, and plants
  • sowing seeds
  • weeding and composting flower beds
  • installing benches
  • painting children's playground
  • pruning
  • cutting grass
  • laying turf
  • trimming hedges
  • litter picking
  • installing kick fencing

And all of these activities take place in the fresh air in a beautiful park which was voted by the public in 2022 as the 'Most Favourite Park' in Manchester!

Area of interest: Covid-19, Environment & Conservation
