How can I volunteer in Manchester?

16 Jan 2017 - 09:08 by barkery.jammeh

In January a lot of people take the time to reflect and think about what the year ahead may look like for them, both professionally and/or personally and a lot of the time volunteering can find its way on to the list of ‘things to do’ this year.

Unfortunately though, it doesn’t always get crossed off the list and that isn’t because people can’t be bothered or have gone off the idea, a lot of the time it’s they don’t know how to get started.

Volunteering, the questions you need to ask!

Volunteering is a hobby or pastime enjoyed by millions of people all over the world and here at Volunteer Centre Manchester (VCM) we hold volunteer inductions every week with budding volunteers. The inductions are a good opportunity for VCM and volunteers to connect, discuss the mix of volunteering opportunities available, chat about what volunteers can expect from organisations and the Volunteer Centre, and to answer any questions volunteers have on the subject.

Hello all,

We hope you had a great weekend!

In today's blog I would like to talk to you about Christmas.... I know we've not even had Halloween or Bonfire night yet, but you know how time flies!

From now - and in the run up to Christmas, the Volunteer Centre receives an increased number of requests to dispense information and guidance on volunteering opportunities that are taking place on or around Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Microvolunteering and online volunteering may not be the first things that spring to mind for people looking at volunteering opportunities. Traditional volunteering roles usually involve spending time on site with an organisation working with other staff, volunteers or service users, or maybe volunteering at an event.

Hello all,

It’s Monday 22nd August 2016, we hope you all had a great weekend.

We are delighted to let you know about a new piece of work we have been working on that will be of great benefit to the local community and the organisations we work with. Over the past few months Macc and Volunteer Centre Manchester have developed a brand new system that will enable company staff to take part in Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) and will be piloting the scheme with Manchester City Council.
