To celebrate this month’s Refugee Week (16th-22nd June 2025) and Volunteer’s Week (2-8th June 2025), Emily McKinnell who leads on the VCSE Sanctuary Seekers Network for Macc, spoke to Rose, who has recently joined us as a Migrant Destitution Fund Project Worker. Linked to Rose’s story, we are also sharing a blog from our Volunteer Centre Manchester, about their recent work on a project led by Manchester City of Sanctuary - a charity creating space for people who seek sanctuary, fleeing war & persecution, and are looking for safety, welcome and friendship.

Rose talked to us about the importance of volunteering for supporting people into employment and education and developing skills. Before joining the Migrant Destitution Fund Team, Rose had multiple volunteering positions, and most recently volunteered at Rainbow Haven - a refugee charity in Manchester. Rose then went on to work there as an Activities Support Worker.
