Greater Manchester Exploring Representation in Leadership for Movement
26th November 10:00 – 12:00 - In person at the St Thomas Centre, Ardwick Green North
The relationship between Sport and 'Race', and the role of leaders in reimagining sport
Racism and racial inequalities exist across our sporting system. But do we truly understand why? In this workshop, we'll explore the the idea of 'race' and the sporting system's role in reinforcing it over the centuries. We'll look at how our system were formed, and how that has created a legacy of inequalities in power, representation and experience.
By understanding the 'why', we finally see that our systems are actually working as designed - in a way that includes some more than others. When we understand this fully, we start to look at the problem in a different light - and it allows us to reimagine what sport could be like if we are brave enough to lead in a different way.
This workshop will give participants a new understanding of the 'why' and give time for discussion on new ideas to dismantle the longstanding issue of racism and racial inequalities in sport.
