Description: A pioneering social business group, EMERGE 3Rs is a registered charity with trading arms social enterprise EMERGE Recycling. We exist to promote the idea and practice of the real ‘3Rs’ of waste reduction, reuse and recycling, and the wider concepts of resource efficiency and sustainable consumption. Grown from a voluntary initiative in 1996, “East Manchester Environment & Resources Group Emerge”, EMERGE continues to be based in the post-industrial heartlands of East Manchester on New Smithfield Wholesale Market. The group currently employs 33 local people and has over 50 regular volunteers and work placements. EMERGE 3Rs provides recycling and reuse services to businesses, schools and homes, and promotes sustainable resource management advice through information and education services within the wider community.

EMERGE 3Rs also runs the Greater Manchester branch of FareShare, a national charity fighting food poverty by tackling food waste, as well as Touch Wood, a timber recycling and reuse service which also provides work experience in woodwork upcycling and repurposing reclaimed timber.

Fresh Food Assistant We are a social enterprise and charity passionate about conserving resources, waste reuse and recycling and developing sustainable communities. We offer work experience, training for local people.
Our food re-distribution charity delivers surplus food from the food industry to our food members who are community groups and charities supporting people in food poverty. We need volunteers who are passionate about rescuing food that is surplus to requirements, keen to get stuck in sorting good produce from bad and enthusiastic to work in a team packing orders for deliveries to charities and community groups.
Neighbourhood Food Collection Join our Team at the nation’s biggest food collection to help fight hunger in the UK. With just three hours of your time, you could collect enough tins, cans and store-cupboard staples/kitchen cupboard essentials for five hundred meals for people in need. (We think that’s pretty tin-credible.)
Delivery Driver We save food and we change lives. We save good food destined for waste and send it to charities and community groups who transform it into nutritious meals for vulnerable people. The food we redistribute is in date surplus from the food industry. Our teams of volunteers support the safe and secure redistribution of surplus food across Greater Manchester.

Customer Call Handler We receive around 80 tonnes of surplus food a month, no wonder we need your telephone and computer skills to support our growing operation. We are looking for confident communicators with good computer skills to join our busy, friendly Membership team. FareShare is a national charity fighting food poverty by tackling food waste. We source food from food retailers and manufacturers, that is surplus to requirements and engage many volunteers to help re-distribute the food to local Community Food Members (CFMs), our customers.
Delivery Driver To be an Ambassador for FareShare by providing excellent service that satisfies customer requirements. We are looking for safe, confident drivers to join our busy, friendly Delivery team. We re-distribute around 64 tonnes of surplus food a month, to Community Food Members across Greater Manchester. This is a striking achievement we’re proud of and we want to do more. This is the reason we need your driving and delivery skills to support our growing operation and welcome you to be part of our success. As a Delivery Driver at FareShare, you will be driving a temperature controlled 3.5 tonnes Mercedes Sprinter van, working closely with a Driver’s Assistant to re-distribute food orders to the premises of various Community Food Members. You will be involved with loading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks from vehicle checks to delivery administration. Our operating hours are Monday - Friday 7:30am to 9:00pm. Driver 4 hour shifts begin at 8:30am. We welcome volunteers who can commit to 1 or 2 days a week. The days and shift rota hours of volunteering are agreed to suit your availability.
Cook and Kitchen Volunteer We are looking for friendly enthusiastic kitchen volunteers who love to prepare and cook delicious lunches for around 20 volunteers and make sure all goes smoothly in the kitchen. The role would also suit someone who has an equally enthusiastic friend, with who they would like to share the cooking opportunity.
