Description: Wythenshawe Good Neighbours (WGN) is an established community initiative. We aim to inspire, inform, invest in and include older residents so that they can benefit from services, facilities and opportunities that Wythenshawe offers. Our core objective is to promote wellbeing and reduce social isolation for older people.

We do this through activities, including, our social eating programme; regular newsletter; practical resilience resource - My Resilience Matters; information/skill-sharing and sign-posting to local services, amenities, activities and events.

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunity title Summary
Volunteer Companions We are looking for volunteers to train as companions for the elderly. This will entail visiting an elderly person in their own home, in the Wythenshawe area (M22 & M23), for a minimum of one hour a week.
Volunteer Driver Wythenshawe Good Neighbours (WGN) is recruiting Volunteer Drivers for its new Volunteer Drivers Scheme, launching this autumn. The WGN membership scheme will see volunteers driving older people to health appointments, organised activities and social engagements across Wythenshawe. They will also be a ‘friendly face’ for service users, informing them about local support for older people (including relating to the cost-of-living crisis) and distributing details of things to do, such as visiting Age Friendly Wythenshawe information ‘Corners’ and social and/health events in community venues.
