Description: The main aims of the Ethiopian Community Association of Greater Manchester is to enable smooth integration and positive contribution of Ethiopian immigrants and refugees/asylum seekers in Greater Manchester. The association also aims to facilitate connections, solidarity and respect of human rights related to members. Its services are open to qualified beneficiaries regardless of religion, political view, race,  colour, sex, gender and sexual orientation, disability, marital and immigration status. Membership is subject to the criteria set out in the governing document.
Services delivered: a. Help new and existing Ethiopian immigrants, refugees/asylum seekers in Greater Manchester to integrate into the wider society through a programme of mixed events, walks, social activities and basic courses or English language classes.
b. Create opportunities to celebrate Ethiopian festivals, music, literature and culture and share it with other communities.
c. To tackle isolation and relieve stress through talks, discussions, trips and other activities.
d. Organise activities for young people including to provide opportunities to children who have no access to learn the Ethiopian Alphabet in their mother tongue.
e. Promote understanding in the wider community, both in the UK and beyond, of the political, social and economic reasons why people come to the UK from Ethiopia and where appropriate to campaign for positive changes and against injustice in Ethiopia and Britain.
f. Provide its services to all Ethiopians who live in Greater Manchester regardless of age, sex, ethnicity, religion or political affiliation. The Association does not support or associate itself to any political party which operates in the UK, Ethiopia or beyond.
g. Establish and consolidate a working relationship with, and give support to the Human Rights, Civic and Charitable organisations who are engaged in carrying out education, and relief work among victims.
h. Communicate and co-operate with local, national and international bodies established to help refuges and asylum seekers in the Greater Manchester area.
i. Co-operate with other similar organisation in Britain.
j. Invite scholars and other informed persons to talk on topics covering the history and culture of Ethiopia and its people, modern scientific progress and current affairs of special interest to member of the community.
k. Organise educational seminars from time to time.
l. Build the association’s Website and use it to publish information regarding the association and its activities or any other related information in various formats including text, audio, and video.
m. Whenever possible, to provide drop-in and outreach services on immigration procedures, housing, welfare rights, health, education, training, employment and other associated areas by way of providing information, advice, advocacy, referral and counselling where possible
n. To do all such other lawful things as may be necessary for the attainment of the above aims.
