Description: Based in a 19th Century former Red Cross Hospital in Chorlton, South Manchester, The Edge is an award winning theatre (both a receiving and producing house), a thriving arts centre, a charity working with homeless people, vulnerable adults and young people to use high quality arts to transform lives, and a café which is also a training centre for adults with learning disabilities.
The Edge was launched in 2011 with award winning actors Julie Hesmondhalgh and Sir Mark Rylance as its patrons.
The Edge is committed to programming and developing the best new writing, fantastic children’s theatre from around the country and new and groundbreaking musical theatre.

Services delivered: We have 6 key projects that comprise our annual Participatory Programme: Aspire, our theatre group for young LD people aged 13-17 years; Expressive Edge, our group for LD adults aged 18+; Aspire Too and Expressive Edge Too, additional groups created in response to demand; Stepping Out a dance and movement company set up in response to alarming rise in obesity amongst some of our groups and the Dressing Room Café Training Programme – a bespoke 12 week course offering one to one training in basic health and safety awareness, food hygiene, handling money and developing basic literacy and numeracy skills. We also run a bespoke Theatre Company comprised of homeless people/at risk homeless people in partnership with the Booth Centre.
