We support individuals to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability. Led by people with experience of disability, we are at the heart of local life — opening doors to opportunity, choice and support in communities around the globe.
In Greater Manchester, Leonard Cheshire has a supported living accommodation and a care home, as well as running two projects - Can Do and Change Makers.
Can Do is a skills development programme for individuals aged 10-35 with a disability or long term health condition. As the country has moved into a new lockdown at the start of 2021, Can Do has moved most of the community activities that we usually run onto digital platforms – keeping people connected in a fun and engaging way.
Change Makers is a campaign for young disabled people aged 16-25. Over a 6 month programme a participants are given training to become Citizen Reporters and creating campaigns to make a change in their community.
