Chorlton Bikes is a Manchester-based Community Benefit Society using cycling to support communities, reduce carbon emissions and create fair, local work.
Founded in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 lockdowns, we initially supported people who were shielding to access food and essentials. Since then, we have grown into a multi-project organisation delivering both community and commercial services by bike.
We operate a fleet of electric cargo bikes to provide low-carbon deliveries for charities, food banks, the NHS and local businesses. A key part of our work is collecting supermarket surplus for partners such as Emmeline’s Pantry, helping to reduce food waste while supporting people facing hardship.
Alongside deliveries, we run community projects including Bikes 4 Refugees, an accessible Trishaw scheme, Shop n Drop volunteer shopping support, and a bike library.
All income is reinvested into community benefit, our riders are paid the Real Living Wage, and our assets are locked for public good.
