Description: Coram Voice is a leading children’s rights organisation. We champion the rights of children. We get young voices heard in decisions that matter to them and work to improve the lives of children in care, care leavers and others who depend upon the help of the state.

We do this because we believe in a society which recognises and willingly accepts its responsibilities to children and young people, where the inequalities and discrimination they currently face have been eradicated, where they are fully engaged in all decisions made about their lives and where their views, needs and feelings are at the core of those decisions.

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunity title Summary
Independent Visitor What is an Independent Visitor? An Independent Visitor is a reliable, consistent and independent friend who visits a looked after child who would benefit from having adult support. What does an Independent Visitor do? An Independent Visitor (IV) takes an interest in the life, hopes and concerns of a child or young person who is looked after by the local authority. An Independent Visitor is there to listen to and befriend the young person. IV’s can make a real difference to a young person by sharing a hobby, sport or interest. They undertake activities and outings with the young person sharing a one to one relationship with them, helping to build their confidence, self-esteem and increasing their life chances. Outings may include such things as bowling, cinema, walk in the park, sporting activities or sometimes days out to local attractions. This will depend on the age and interests of the child/young person.
WITHDRAWN - Independent Visitor Could you befriend and support a child in care? Independent Visitors are volunteers who befriend and spend time with a child or young person within Local Authority care. Our volunteers enjoy the challenge of building a lasting friendship and the children benefit greatly from a consistent, fun relationship with someone outside the care system.
