Description: Animal assisted wellbeing interventions delivered across Greater Manchester - designed to support mental health and combat loneliness.
Services delivered: Currently in start up after winning UnLtd Award funding - and part of 10 pilot projects supported by GM Addventures due to start support on 7th march 2014. I offer monthly sessions from Gaddum Centre as an free open day experience. However, I intend to scale up to once per week at a reasonable cost if I get any interest. 1:1 sessions will be offered as part of initial risk assessment. Clients may stay in this category until they feel ready to move onto group work which are limited to max of 4 clients (plus support workers). Some home visits may be available but preferably to operate from the gaddum centre.
My aim is to offer contact with the animals as part of a therapy program to address specific issues or just to provide activity around animals. Future plan include being able to provide opportunities to volunteer as part of therapy goals with a view to offerings staged responsibility in caring for animals. Volunteer roles envisage extending to offering volunteer supported visits with animals to isolated elderly.
