Neighbourhood Health Champions
Neighbourhood Health Champions
Neighbourhood health champions are part of a partnership between the Moss Side Millennium Powerhouse and the Manchester Local Care Organisation.
Health champions are community members based in Hulme, Moss Side or Rusholme. The purpose of neighbourhood health champions is to improve health equity in the area.
Neighbourhood health champions will be fully trained with expenses paid in full.
Neighbourhood health champions will have a variety of tasks. They will act as health messengers. They will also act as signposters in their networks, connecting people to existing services. Health champions will also be able to assist during local health initiatives. For example, they can be trained to take blood pressure measurements and help people feel at ease during this process. Health champions will also help encourage the uptake of health screenings using phone calls or out in the community.
This initiative is a pilot scheme, so potential neighbourhood health champions will be supported if they have their own ideas and interests.
We welcome neighbourhood health champions as individuals, in pairs or in groups.
Currently, only English.
We encourage neighbourhood health champions that are knowledgeable of other community languages.
Neighbourhood health champions will work within their existing networks. They will also reach out to others in the neighbourhood via telephone or in person at organised health events.
