Refugees at Home

Where do they work?: Greater Manchester
Registered charity number: 1177765
Company number: Refugees at Home
Description: Refugees at Home connects people with a spare room to refugees and people seeking asylum in need of somewhere to stay. We were set up in 2016 in response to the war in Syria. Since then, it has grown to become the UK’s largest independent hosting charity, finding rooms for more than 5,000 guests from 75 different countries thanks to our network of generous hosts across the UK.

We don’t think people who come to the UK for sanctuary should end up on the streets. Our vision is for every refugee and every person seeking asylum to have a safe place to stay. We recruit and support volunteer hosts who are willing to offer a temporary home and a helping hand. We carefully assess each guest and host, match according to preferences, advise on hosting arrangements and preparations, and provide ongoing support to hosts throughout the placement.
Services are available: Online/digitally, By telephone

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunity title Summary
Hosting Volunteer We urgently need more volunteer hosts in the Manchester area. Refugees At Home is a small charity that arranges altruistic hosting, over a limited period, for destitute asylum-seekers and refugees.

Our hosts are people with space in their homes and a willingness to open their doors to an asylum seeker or refugee in need, some hosts have a sofa bed and can offer emergency hosting only, others have a spare room (and sometimes two) and are able to host for longer periods.
Volunteer Host Refugees at home are looking for volunteers with a spare room to host refugees and asylum seekers.
