Description: Being There provides community-based support for local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses including strokes, heart and respiratory conditions.

We have two branches in Manchester and also operate in Salford, Trafford and Tameside and offer volunteering opportunities at all these. Roles include one-to-one befriending, group support, hospital transport and practical help such as shopping. All volunteers are fully trained and supported.

We also offer a counselling service.

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunity title Summary
Volunteering Opportunities with Being There Our fantastic team of volunteers provide home support, befriending, respite sitting, transport to hospital, social activities and practical help such as shopping.

Volunteers also help out at our social support groups we hold every 2nd and 4th Wednesday in New Moston.
Listening Volunteer We support people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses such as strokes, heart and respiratory disease. We operate in the Greater Manchester area, After training and DBS checks, Listening volunteers are matched up with people who have requested support.
Driver & Transport volunteer We are a Greater Manchester charity providing support for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, families and carers. Being There provides support in Manchester (two branches) Salford, Trafford and Tameside. Support includes one-to-one emotional support - listening to concerns, group support twice monthly, practical help such as shopping, transport to medical appointments, occasional arts and other social activities. We recruit and train volunteers from the local communities they serve building on the strengths of individuals and their communities. Full training and support is given to all volunteers paid staff at local branches.
Telephone Support Volunteer Being There are looking for telephone support volunteers to support people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses.
Being There Trustee We would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in becoming a Trustee but are actively looking for Trustees who specialise in HR, IT and software, marketing and fundraising.
Volunteer Home Befriender Being There is looking for Befrienders to have a brew and a chat with individuals who have a life-limiting illness (such as cancer, stroke, heart disease, or respiratory diseases) in their own home.
Volunteer Phone Befriender Being There are looking for Volunteer Befrienders to have a brew and a chat with individuals who have a life-limiting illness (such as cancer, stroke, heart disease, or respiratory diseases) over the phone.
Volunteer Driver Being There are looking for volunteer drivers to take clients who have a life-limiting illness (such as cancer, stroke, heart diseases, or respiratory diseases) to and from hospital and medical appointments. Drivers must have access to their own vehicle.
Social Group Volunteer Being There are looking for volunteers to assist at their fortnightly social group.
