Description: We promote services to enable deaf, hard-of-hearing and deafblind people to improve the quality of their lives. The Deaf Centre provides facilities for Sports and Social Club, Deafblind, Youth Group and 50 Group. All groups are supported through training and volunteer project we have. We run an agency which provides Sign Language Interpreters. We also provide BSL and Deaf Awareness training.

Special activities running over winter: We have a range of sessions conducted over Zoom for courses and regular activities. We have a Deaf Women's Wellbeing group, a Tuesday evening programme for young people, an Ex-offender's session, and a Sign Language session on Thursday evenings.

We are also currently offering a Befriending Service with accompanied walks in a socially distanced manner on a home visit basis.

Volunteer Taster Session - DAVE Group The group is facilitated by our Youth Leader and Youth Workers and welcomes anyone who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing/CODAs aged between 14-25 years of age. As a volunteer your role would be to assist the team in delivering opportunities to the service users by providing support with developing their confidence with volunteering opportunities, job searches, creating a CV, health issues, new projects, arts, sports and much more.
Volunteer Taster Session - Social Bar Volunteer Within our centre we have a bar which creates social opportunities for both deaf and hearing people. Volunteers are required to work the bar, serving drinks to our Deaf service users and BSL students. If you’re interested in this role you will need to be confident in your BSL skills and must have good customer relations skills.
Volunteer Taster Session - Job Club Volunteer The club is facilitated by our Job Club Coordinator and Job Workers. As a volunteer your role would be to assist the team with providing support to our service users by helping them to create a CV, create a covering letter, carry out job searches, help complete application forms, make telephone enquiries and arrange appointments/interviews.
Volunteer Taster Session - Youth Group Volunteer This group is facilitated by our Youth Leader and Youth Workers and welcomes anyone who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing/CODAs aged between 6-19 years of age. As a volunteer your role would be to assist the team with a range of activities such as: arts and crafts, candle making, fun cooking sessions, swimming, movie night/ themed nights, and much more.
Volunteer Taster Session - Event Volunteer From time to time MDC will host events both internally/externally. These can run during the day/evening and occasionally on weekends. Volunteers would be required to ensure the smooth running of these events by supporting with serving refreshments and making sure that our guests are looked after.
Social Bar - Volunteer Within our centre we have a bar which creates social opportunities for both deaf and hearing people.
