Description: Northmoor Community Association (NCA) is an independent charity set up by the local community in 2000, based in Longsight, Manchester; it is made up of two parts: Northmoor Community Centre and Northmoor Hub.
NCA is run with an emphasis on relieving poverty, promoting health & wellbeing, advancing skills & learning and enhancing the quality of life for the people who engage with us and use our services – this is a reflection of our mission and volunteer designed and community endorsed logo.

Today the NCA is an integral part of a diverse community that is tackling multi levels of deprivation and we fulfil our mission by offering a wide range of services and activities for all ages, all of which are delivered by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who have a variety of skills and knowledge.

The majority of services we offer are free of charge so we rely on many different sources of funding to keep the services open; we also host a range of other free services that are delivered by other local charities or partner organisations.

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunity title Summary
Community outreach volunteer Northmoor Community Centre and Northmoor Hub are based in Longsight. Together, we provide a variety of free, drop-in activities as well as 1:1 support on benefits, pensions, housing and general advice.

We need help with spreading information on our activities and services to our local community and improving communication. We have previously done leafleting and door-knocking and want to continue this as well as finding different methods of communication and building engagement.

Skills desired:
Previous experience in local outreach and publicity,
Can speak an additional language such as: Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Bangla, Arabic, French

Homework Club Volunteer Northmoor Homework club is a free after-school project for children aged 8-16 which provides a safe, nurturing space for children to do their homework and to take part in games and arts and crafts afterwards. The homework club is an informal, relaxed environment but we still maintain the strictest of Safeguarding procedures and expect the children to adhere to the agreed boundaries.
Advice Hub Volunteer Northmoor Community Hub needs volunteers to support people by: Setting up e-mail accounts, using the internet, downloading and uploading documents and reading and understanding online messages; Helping them to fill in forms (online and paper); Making phone calls on their behalf. You will start by shadowing our staff until you can give the right help by yourself.

If you love helping others and have good English and IT skills you could really help make a difference in our community. We particularly welcome volunteers who speak additional languages like Urdu, Bangla, Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic, Farsi, Sorani or French.
