Description: Northmoor Community Association (NCA) is an independent charity set up by the local community in 2000, based in Longsight, Manchester; it is made up of two parts: Northmoor Community Centre and Northmoor Hub.
NCA is run with an emphasis on relieving poverty, promoting health & wellbeing, advancing skills & learning and enhancing the quality of life for the people who engage with us and use our services – this is a reflection of our mission and volunteer designed and community endorsed logo.

Today the NCA is an integral part of a diverse community that is tackling multi levels of deprivation and we fulfil our mission by offering a wide range of services and activities for all ages, all of which are delivered by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who have a variety of skills and knowledge.

The majority of services we offer are free of charge so we rely on many different sources of funding to keep the services open; we also host a range of other free services that are delivered by other local charities or partner organisations.

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunity title Summary
Homework Club Assistant Volunteer Volunteers are required for a minimum of 3 hours per week to help in providing support to children and staff at the homework club. This is a valuable service for children in the area as it gives them a safe and supportive place to complete homework and learn new skills.
IT Basic Skills Support Volunteer Volunteers are required to help support local residents and people from the community who don’t have much experience in using computers. We offer the community free access to a networked IT suite based and the main reasons for people accessing the Work Club are to set up e-mail accounts, job searching, and CV development, completing online application forms and accessing council and community services online.
Lead Fundraising Volunteer <p>We are based in the Longsight area and its main aim to bring a vibrant, viable and sustainable feature to the Community. Activities at the community centre include an older persons group, a homework club, community caf&eacute;, volunteer program, a work club and a parent and toddler group. The centre also has rooms to hire and is a friendly and welcoming place for the local and wider community. The organisation is heavily reliant on funding and is experiencing financial hardship.</p>
Community Café Cook & Baker <p>We are open to the public every Wednesday from 12pm to 2pm. As a volunteer cook you would be responsible for cooking a nutritious meal from a recipe or baking a cake from a recipe. We value your experience as a cook or baker so if you have your own recipes you would like to cook then this is encouraged. It is a great chance for volunteers to gain valuable work experience, get creative in the kitchen and give back to the community. Before starting as a volunteer cook you will be expected to complete a level 2 food hygiene course on the computer which we will provide free of charge at the centre.</p>
Laundrette Assistant <p>As well as providing washing and drying services to the local community, the laundrette has IT facilities for customers to use while they wait. Volunteers are required to help run the community laundrette on Northmoor Road and assist staff in providing good customer service to the local community.</p>
Homework Club Arts & Crafts Volunteer The Homework Club is a valuable service for children in the area aged 8-16 as it gives them a safe and supportive place to complete homework and learn new skills. NCA are looking for volunteers who can deliver creative arts and crafts sessions to the group.Volunteers must be over 18 years of age and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
Community Café General Assistant <p>We open to the public every Wednesday from 12pm to 2pm. A volunteer is needed to provide general support to the caf&eacute; and manage the till. No cooking is required but as duties include being in and out of the kitchen you will be expected to complete a level 1 food hygiene course on the computer which we will provide free of charge at the centre.</p>

NEXT STEP Project Support Volunteer Our project takes place in the IT suite and supports local residents with their next step into Learning and Development and Developing Skills and Creating Opportunities NCA needs volunteers to help support residents with tasks such as accessing online courses, setting up e-mail accounts, job searching, and CV development, completing online application forms and accessing council and community services online and accessing public services.
Homework Club Maths Assistant The Homework Club is a valuable service for children in the area aged 8-16 as it gives them a safe and supportive place to complete homework and learn new skills. NCA are looking for volunteers to help children with their maths homework and support the maths teacher. Volunteers must be over 18 years of age and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
