Description: Established in 2007, SASCA was created to support and advocate for Manchester’s growing Somali community. As a charity founded and run by Somalis, we aim to provide advice and guidance to the city's most marginalised communities. Our clients almost exclusively come from Black and Ethnic Minority communities, often facing language barriers that hinder their ability to communicate with service providers. Our mission is to empower these communities by offering the support and guidance needed to make informed decisions about their daily lives. We are dedicated to serving all marginalised communities, regardless of their background, and ensuring that our services are accessible to everyone.
Initially, our focus was on assisting Somali elders in Manchester, providing support with daily life activities such as welfare rights advice, home visits, interpretation services, assistance with hospital appointments, and an afternoon social club. Over the years, our scope has expanded, and we now work with all adults. Our services cover welfare rights advice, housing repairs/rehousing, debt, dealing with immigration help, and general guidance.
Additionally, we run a mental health and outreach, including home visits for housebound people, programmes. We thereby support those suffering from social isolation, offering access to our main services, companionship and emotional support to alleviate common mental health problems.
