Description: Manchester Carers Forum is led by unpaid carers so we know how it really feels to be a carer. We understand that caring for a loved one can be a rewarding experience, but highly stressful too. Carers spend their entire lives putting others first, and as a result can often end up feeling insignificant, isolated and ignored. Feelings of failure and anger, and of constant worry are common. Our goal is to provide carers with a collective voice, and to provide the reassurance that someone is listening. Just knowing that someone cares can be a lifeline. With our support groups, training, mentoring and fun activities and advocacy for carers we aim to be that lifeline.

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunity title Summary
Supporting Unpaid Carers I was at breaking point, but now I am flying again” Feedback from a carer when asked about the volunteer who rings her once a week. Living alongside a family member or friend who has dementia can be lonely and confusing, Carers Forum match unpaid carers with volunteers who have experience of caring for someone with dementia. Our volunteers listen to carers, offer friendship and help them find answers to their questions. Volunteers mostly keep in contact with carers by phone, but they can also visit a carer in their own home or somewhere local. We provide ongoing training and support to our volunteers.
Carer Support Volunteer We are a registered charity that recognises the vital role that unpaid carers play within society. We understand the importance in valuing carers and supporting them so they can continue doing such an important and invaluable job.
