Reading Champions 2016 - 2017 | We are running the Reading Champions again this year. There will be an introductory session on 20th January which will be an opportunity to find out more about the course. This course provides an insight on how to teach reading to adults. The participants will attend the course and a placement with ourselves. After the course the volunteers will be fully trained to volunteer in our classes and/or run their own reading groups. Last year, all of the Reading Champions found the course very useful and rewarding. Some volunteers used the course as a stepping stone to teacher training, university etc and some older participants simply used it to enrich their retirement and as a pathway to further volunteering and some went on to run small reading groups. |
Digital and Work Club Mentors | As a volunteer Digital Mentor, you will use your own computing skills and knowledge to help people who are less confident using computers to use the internet, email and social media for a range of purposes. If you already volunteer or would like to start doing so, you can get a free place on our 6 week Mentoring Skills training course, which will help you in your volunteering role. If you are able to provide regular support to people using computers, have good written and spoken communication skills, as well as good ICT skills, this could be the opportunity for you! |

WITHDRAWN Volunteer with Talk English | The Talk English project in Manchester runs volunteer led ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) sessions all over the city. Our aim is to help our learners gain confidence in speaking English as well as to improve their reading and writing skills. We also help people to access local services and get more involved in their local community. Living in a city where you don't speak the language is a difficult and isolating experience. Talk English classes provide a friendly environment where people can practice their English and meet new people. The main focus is on conversation and getting to know each other. |
