Projects Officer (Love Your Neighbour) at Manchester Cares

Manchester Cares is seeking an enterprising and committed people-person to join their core team in this exciting new post as Projects Officer (Love Your Neighbour).

Working closely with the Programmes Coordinator, Project Officer (Social Clubs) and Development Officer, this role is dedicated to building the one-to-one Love Your Neighbour friendship programme from the ground up.

Currently, the programme is in the early stages of development, led by the Programmes Coordinator. In this new role you will establish and grow the programme to connect older and younger Mancunians to build meaningful relationships; the ambition is to build 20 new one-to-one friendships by September and to double that number by early 2019.

Manchester Cares is looking for an authentic and creative communicator who can build lasting relationships with diverse groups and individuals – ranging from the most active, outgoing fun-loving 90-somethings to people with huge and complex challenges. The successful candidate will be responsible for building, sustaining and supporting those friendships between older and younger Mancunians, and managing multiple tasks, sensitivities and challenges at the same time.

Day-to-day, you will be out in the community, meeting neighbours joining the network for the first time, hosting evening inductions for new volunteers, making assessments and matches in people’s homes, working with colleagues across Manchester Cares, and holding meetings with various referral organisations and other partners key to the successful delivery of the Love Your Neighbour programme and our overall vision.

Manchester Cares would needs someone who understands and is motivated by the demographics and social challenges of the city and the issues they work on – and in particular who is passionate about people and can clearly promote their vision of building friendships across divides in order to tackle isolation and loneliness in Manchester.

First round interviews will take place on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 March, with call backs for second interviews on Wednesday 4 April and a start as soon as possible thereafter.

To apply send a CV and covering letter to: [email protected], demonstrating why you are right for this role.
