Association of Chairs guide: Financial leadership in small charities

Charity and non-profit finances are not the sole responsibility of the treasurer - every trustee and chair should be able to understand their organisation's accounts. But finances can be confusing, especially if you don't come from a financial background.

The guide addresses the chair's role on finance, but is also a helpful read for trustees to understand more about their part to play. It covers five key questions:

  1. How can I support trustees with their financial duties?
  2. What board arrangements will suit our financial governance?
  3. Do we have a clear financial plan?
  4. Do we have the financial information that we need?
  5. Are key finance relationships working well?
