The Baird Inquiry is an independent report into the experience of people who are arrested and taken into custody by Greater Manchester Police with a focus on women and girls. In August 2023, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, commissioned Dame Vera Baird KC to carry out an independent inquiry into the treatment of women and girls who have been arrested and taken into police custody in Greater Manchester following a Sky News investigation in July 2023 that reported distressing incidents regarding the cases of three women who were arrested and detained by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
