Big Issue: Supporting Social Enterprise

16 Jun 2014 - 13:57 by michelle.foster

Started in 2005, Big Issue Invest (BII) backs social businesses, charities, and ventures that tackle poverty and inequality. BII have invested more than £20 million in over 170 organisations to improve the quality of life in Britain’s poorest communities.

To date, BII investments have directly benefited over 1.7 million individuals, sustained 3,200 in employment, and trained over 14,000 people. BII’s five-year goal is to facilitate a further £50 million of social investment in order to impact the lives of 4.4 million people, provide over 8,800 jobs and train over 34,000 individuals.

Currently, BII investments range from £50,000 to £1 million and take the form of early stage finance, loans, and equity; BII do not make grants.
