Big Lottery announce main focus, target groups and activities for support under Building Better Opportunities in Greater Manchester

10 Apr 2015 - 09:35 by michelle.foster

The Big Lottery Fund Building Better Opportunities programme will focus on Active Inclusion, and will be an innovative programme for marginalised groups to help bring them to and support them to be more socially included.

The project is likely to be targeted at people from 25 years old who are unemployed or economically inactive, not in contact with mainstream services and who are experiencing a range of issues at the same time, including people who live in poverty. This programme will support people with disabilities or health conditions (including learning difficulties, mental/physical health conditions, drug and alcohol dependency), adults under-represented in labour market for example homeless, ex-offenders, LGBT, ethnic minorities or migrant communities and people operating in the informal economy.

The project will include activities which address these social needs and provide high quality evidence based support to these communities, enabling and supporting more employers to recruit from priority groups and also helping priority groups overcome complex barriers to finding and sustaining work and improving their skills.

GMCVO, New Economy and Network for Europe will work together to inform, advise and support voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations in Greater Manchester so that they are enabled to access ESF and contribute to delivering the ESIF Plan.

This will include:
• Awareness raising: understanding the GM ESIF plan and the requirements, risks and responsibilities of delivery.
• Routes to access and brokerage: practical understanding of how to access ESF and help to identify appropriate partner/lead organisations.
• Technical help: registration, PQQs, pricing, data monitoring and recording; tender-checking for VCSE lead body applications.
