Taking place on 13th June at The Sheridan, Miles Platting, the Carers Celebration Evening offers unpaid carers a chance to enjoy a three-course meal and live entertainment, in recognition of their vital contribution within our communities. Representatives from Manchester City Council will be in attendance to present certificates of appreciation.
An unpaid carer is someone who looks after a relative, partner or friend, due to their physical or mental illness, disability, frailty or addiction. In the UK, the economic value of unpaid carers' work is £184 billion a year, which is equivalent to a second NHS.
According to the 2021 Census, there are around 38,000 unpaid carers in Manchester, but many more may not have been identified or supported.
Dan Mitchell, Carers Manchester Network and Engagement Coordinator, wrote, “Unpaid carers play a vital role in society but are often overworked and undervalued. The Carers Celebration Evening is all about giving carers the VIP treatment they deserve, and raising awareness of caring more widely.”
After nominations close on 27th March, 200 carers will be randomly selected to receive a free ticket for the event. Selected carers will then be given the opportunity to purchase additional tickets for friends and family.
