NHS England has awarded a community grant to Healthy Me Healthy Communities of Manchester who are delivering excellence in patient and public participation.
The Celebrating Participation in Healthcare grants are being made available to community groups who have been demonstrating innovative and creative approaches to getting patients and the public involved in shaping healthcare. Creative approaches to participation are happening all over the country, but community groups often do not have the resources available to showcase their valuable work. As part of the commitment to spread and highlight good practice, NHS England has made a community grant fund available to enable these community organisations to share their learning with others.
Healthy Me Healthy Communities with a range of partners, patients and residents has produced a Rusholme Health and Wellbeing Plan (funded by Manchester City Council) identifying what matters to local-people and their first-steps for bringing about health improvements for their community. HMHC will use the grants to develop resources and material that can be shared through NHS England’s website for the benefit of local and national organisations. This will enable health and voluntary sector organisations from across England to explore good practice and learn from this successful engagement work.
Chief Executive of Healthy Me Healthy Communities, Rich Browning said: “We are delighted that our work has been recognised by NHS England and it is fantastic news for everyone involved in producing neighbourhood health-plans.”
Chief Executive of NHS England, Simon Stevens said: “We know that there is really excellent patient and public involvement work happening all around the country and we want to do more to share and learn from what is happening locally.”
