Founded in 1990, BHA (formerly Black Health Agency) is a health and social care charity that exists to challenge health equalities and support individuals, families and communities to improve their health and well-being.
BHA offer a range of services delivered at local, regional and national level. The areas of expertise include sexual health, community health education and engaging and involving individuals and communities in health and social care decision making.
BHA are looking to appoint a new Chair and Treasurer
Chair
BHA are looking to appoint a new Chair who will share their passion, embrace their values and lead the Board of Trustees on the next stage of their exciting and challenging journey. The role of the Board of Trustees is to set the Charity’s strategic direction, monitor the delivery of its charitable objects, to guide, advise and support the CEO and Senior Management Team towards achieving the organisation’s vision and purpose.
The skills and experience for a prospective Chair are:
• Extensive knowledge and solid experience of the public and voluntary sector with experience of relationships at Board level
• intellectual strength, business acumen, integrity and an ability to consider and discuss issues laterally and strategically with a clear vision and an ability to lead and drive significant change
• awareness of political, regulatory and market issues
• an understanding and acceptance of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
• ambassadorial skills for internal and external audiences
• commitment and willingness to devote the necessary time to BHA
Treasurer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and caring professional to take on the role of treasurer. You will oversee the financial function of the organisation with full support from a qualified and competent Financial Controller and colleagues on the Board of Trustees. Knowledge of the voluntary sector is desirable but not essential.
The skills and experience for a prospective Treasurer are:
• Ability to think strategically and innovate
• Confidence to constructively challenge fellow Board Members and the Chief Executive
• Financial qualifications preferable but not a necessity
• Some experience of charity finance and fundraising.
• Ability to analyse audited and management accounts, communicate findings and make recommendations about the Charity’s direction accordingly
• Understanding and experience of acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
Commitment for the roles
This post is for a minimum of three years. The role is non-executive and voluntary. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Board meetings take place on a quarterly basis and you will be expected to give your time for 4 meetings (4 days) together with attending up to two awaydays per year. You must also be willing to be available to staff to respond to queries and provide advice on an ad hoc basis.
