The Christmas Dinner Project started in Manchester in 2013 with one clear vision: that no care leaver will be alone on Christmas Day. It’s about local communities across the UK, coming together to put on dinners on Christmas Day for care leavers between 18 and 25.
Donations are welcome to the Lemn Sissay Foundation to support this vision.
Many care leavers spend Christmas Day alone, without family, in flats, B&B’s and hostels, sofa surfing, or living on the streets. Christmas is a reminder of everything they never had. Lemn Sissay MBE has shared this experience.
The Christmas Dinner Project intends to make new memories for young people at Christmas. Care leavers are left fending for themselves when they reach 18, The Christmas Dinner Project gives them the opportunity to share Christmas with other young people, make new friends and connections.
This year there are an incredible 17 dinners, all run by volunteers with venues and donations to gifts sourced in the local community. This is a truly inspirational project that shows communities caring for young care leavers.
If you would like to make sure this project can continue to run the dinners, this year and in the future you can donate to the from now until the 31 December.
