Comic Relief - Local Communities Grants

28 Apr 2016 - 10:41 by michelle.foster

This programme aims to empower local people, enabling them to create lasting change in their communities. Projects should be run by people directly affected by the issues they are dealing with and priority will be given to small, locally based groups or organisations. Grants of up to £5,000 are available.

Comic Relief will fund community groups (as long as you have a constitution), registered charities, social enterprises, Community Interest Companies, Community Centres, Resident Associations and credit unions.

A Local Communities grant must be at least 30% of the total cost of the project and are for one year only.

Comic Relief are giving priority to: groups operating in deprived areas - according to the indices of social deprivation; and /or groups benefiting individuals considered vulnerable such as: the elderly, people with physical / mental / emotional issues; black and minority groups etc.

Funding will support community groups running projects that are working towards the following outcomes:
• Improve life skills, education, employability and enterprise
• Maximise ability to strengthen community cohesion and build social capacity
• Advance people's physical and mental health, wellbeing and safety

There are still many communities in the UK that suffer from economic and social deprivation and the current economic climate may make this situation worse. For this reason, Comic Relief has decided that £4.5 million should be available to fund projects across the UK which are addressing these issues through a third phase of the ‘Local Communities’ programme.
