Comic Relief - Tech for Good Programme

30 Apr 2015 - 09:14 by michelle.foster

Comic Relief fully understands how important digital technology is in modern life and have ample evidence of its potential to address some of our biggest social challenges. Through Tech For Good Comic Relief want to support not-for-profit organisations in using digital technology to create social change by delivering new ideas or more effective services.

This programme is specifically targeted at not-for-profit organisations that already have some technical expertise and capacity to enact social change using digital technologies.

Comic Relief are looking to fund projects that use software and digital technology as a part of a solution to addressing any of their UK Main Fund themes: Better Futures, Safer Lives, Healthier Finances, Stronger Communities, Fairer Society. Applicants must be able to complete their project within six months (grants will start from mid-July) and additional mentoring will be provided to ensure they are best placed to do so.

A wide range of digital initiatives that could lead to social change will be considered for the programme, but the aim is to fund projects that:
• Are focused on specific user needs
• Make best use of web, mobile apps or internet based technologies to deliver a service
• Scale effectively (have economies of scale)
• Challenge existing ways of delivering services

Comic Relief are looking to fund more than just good ideas they want applicants to also show that they understand how to manage a successful digital project, and that they have sound technical expertise in their management and delivery team. They expect that some development work will already have taken place.
