Community Diagnostic Centres Equalities Fund

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is the largest NHS Trust in the UK with over 28,000 staff and manages 10 hospitals.

fundingMFT are developing a new diagnostics model where more Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC’s) are created in free standing locations away from main hospital sites. Diagnostics means when you have tests to find out if something is wrong with your health.

MFT through the Community Diagnostic Centres have made available funds ranging from £100, up to a maximum of £20,000 per project/application to support its work in reducing health inequalities.

Are you a voluntary, community or social enterprise organisation based and working within Trafford, City of Manchester, South or North Manchester?

Does your organisation regularly support people or communities most affected by health inequalities and:

  • Experience discrimination and/or disadvantage
  • Experience disproportionate health needs
  • Experience demonstrably poorer outcomes and/or experience of health and care services

The fund would be to support work that communities and representative groups feel will have the biggest impact on improving accessibility, experience, and health inequalities.

Patients have told MFT the areas are of importance to them:

  • Support with making practical changes to CDC services
  • Support with making practical changes to CDC facilities
  • Providing experiences and insight about local communities and cultural competency to staff working within the CDC’s
  • Improve communications (e.g. signage and patient info)

The fund is targeted at groups working with individuals from one or more of the protected groups.

MFT are very interested in new, innovative, imaginative or pioneering projects which have perhaps not yet caught the public imagination and will have the biggest impact on health inequalities.

The projects funded would be developed by those groups, and might include:

  • Community engagement work, such as community focus groups to support in raising awareness of and/or build confidence in accessing CDC services, funds can cover the venue costs, facilitation and travel costs of community members participating.
  • Co-development of accessible information relating to CDC services, videos, Ted talks, etc.
  • Projects supporting communities in Central Manchester
  • Projects supporting communities in North Manchester
  • Projects supporting communities in Trafford
  • Projects supporting communities in South Manchester

MFT will accept collaborative applications from organisations working in partnership.

This funding will help sustain the efforts of smaller groups that have limited resources, which support communities of people that are experiencing health inequalities.
