The CHEM (COVID Health Equity Manchester) group was established in July 2020 in response to the disproportionate adverse effects COVID-19 has had on some of Manchester’s communities. The group aims to achieve its objectives through collaborative whole system working, influence and advocacy as well as direct actions through its programme of work.
£393,000 is available for voluntary sector activity to support in response to the disproportionate adverse effects COVID-19 has had on some of Manchester’s communities. Grants available of up to £10,000 per bid are available.
The aim of the grant funding is:
- To engage with specific groups and communities to understand what is important to them, and how we can reduce the spread of COVID, severe illness and death in those communities
- To create conditions that enable residents to make informed decisions about living safely and well with COVID. This can include vaccinations, testing, etc and COVID safety in the community
- To improve vaccine coverage and COVID safety amongst specific Manchester communities
- To support specific groups with the immediate indirect consequences of COVID-19 e.g., mental health, Domestic Violence and Abuse, Income loss etc.
Who can apply:
- Organisations that work with the following groups:
- Communities that experience racial inequality
- Communities that experience racial inequality with a focus on young people
- Communities that experience racial inequality with a focus on women and girls
- People who do jobs that are at high risk – care workers, taxi drivers, security, hospitality
- Disabled People’s groups and communities.
- Inclusion health groups – New or undocumented migrants, Asylum Seekers and Refugees, Gypsies, Travellers and Roma, Sex Workers
- LGBTQIA+ Communities that experience racial inequality.
Manchester (ward boundary) based VCSE organisations and/or organisations predominantly serving Manchester residents.
Voluntary and community organisations with charitable objectives working in Manchester which meet or contribute to the grant priorities.
Grants can be awarded for the following:
- Items of equipment
- To provide the costs for community events or engagements
- To produce publicity material or meet the costs of taking part in events which publicise the project services
- Volunteer expenses and training for volunteers
- Costs of interpretations, translations, and alternative formats
- Costs towards sessional work
