Festival50 is part of Chetham’s School of Music’s celebration of fifty years of creative education, accessibility and diversity. In 1969, students – including the first female and international students in a 300 year school history – joined Chetham’s by audition. That small musical revolution formed a new co-educational specialist music school with far-reaching results. In 2019, we celebrate that moment of positive change with our wider community in Festival50.
Send initial expressions of interest to: [email protected], briefly outlining your organisation/group and the kind of work they hope to put forward for Festival50 - dance pieces, musical or vocal performances (15 minutes maximum duration) or photographic/art works for exhibition in public spaces. Your proposals don’t need to be brand-new or unique to the Festival, just a creative expression that represents your group and responds to the Festival theme.
Your work/s will need to be ready in time for October 2019. The Festival50 weekend (20 - 21 October 2019) opens Chetham’s School of Music’s unique performance spaces to showcase a range of creative communities and their musical, dance or visual art works. Taking the School as a central point, Chetham’s School of Music invite community or educational groups within a 15-mile radius to join in by helping gather 50 creative responses to the Festival theme: joined in/joined up: Whether inspired by moments of enlightenment and change in the past 50 years, or aspirations for the next, bring your group’s ideas and identities to share the stage.
