Community Events Funding is available from Manchester City Council to fully constituted community groups as development funding to help community based, not-for-profit celebrations and events grow and move towards becoming self sustaining. The grant is available for activities taking place between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021.
You must be able to demonstrate that the funding can generate citywide social and economic returns beyond the local neighbourhood. In particular, Community events funding should generate economic benefits, enhance Manchester’s global reputation and make the city a better place to live. In addition, you should show commitment to reducing any negative environmental impacts of your event, in line with the City’s commitment to tackle climate change.
In order to achieve the required impacts and outcomes Manchester City Council expect that successful applicants will be proposing events that have similar impact to those events funded in 2019/20. Funding for community events will also generally be available only to groups who can also demonstrate a track record in event delivery and community engagement on a scale that can demonstrate citywide impacts.
Examples of community events that received funding in 2019/20 are:
- Chinese New Year celebrations
- The Irish Festival parade
- Manchester Mega Mela
- Gobefest
- Dashehra Diwali Mela
- St Georges Day
As a general guide, funding is available for up to 20% of the total event cost. The maximum grant available is £20,000 a year.
