Greater Manchester older people’s organisations encouraged to apply to be a Sky Up Digital Hub

11 May 2023 - 10:39 by michelle.foster

Sky is encouraging older people’s organisations and charities in Greater Manchester and around the UK to apply to set up and run a ‘Sky Up Digital Hub’ and receive free public Wi-Fi for three free wi-fiyears and devices. The digital hubs provide support to people over the age of 65 who may lack skills and confidence to get online safely, offering them training and advice to make the most of online services and communication apps. All installation of Wi-Fi and devices is managed by Sky.

To apply to be a Sky Up Digital Hub your organisation needs to target those over the age of 65 who would benefit from connectivity and digital skills support. Sky recognises that the digital support your organisation offers may be delivered in different ways, including via digital drop ins, basic digital skills courses, 1-1 digital support, and digital as an informal add on to a social group (such as a luncheon club).

Eligibility criteria:

  • Local charity / organisation at the heart of the community
  • Has own / rented premises to run in person sessions.
  • Connectivity provision of Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) or Fibre to the Premises. (FTTP)
  • Has a digital skills programme or offer / plans to start a new digital programme supporting members
