Grants of £5,000 have been awarded to three Greater Manchester-based community organisations. The grants will fund innovative projects to encourage local people to leave their cars behind and try the bus instead.
The winners are:
Gaydio (leading a consortium of 8 community radio stations) – using local radio to deliver the benefits of taking the bus to thousands of drivers ahead of a ‘Get on Board’ day of activity
Saheli – the ‘Green Route Challenge’ will give vulnerable women a new lease of life by exposing them to the opportunities that taking the bus can give them, through workshops and trips
Pure Innovations – helping children with special educational needs gain independence from needing lifts from parents through ‘Parent-led Independent Travel Training’
Greener Journeys will be working with the three successful applicants to bring their ideas to life in early 2013.
