31 Jan 2020 - 10:58 by michelle.foster

Let’s keep growing is a community garden project in Longsight providing free activities to Greater Manchester residents of all ages and abilities, there’s no need to book, and light refreshments are provided. No gardening or building experience is necessary.

Upcoming activities:
Saturday 1 February, 2pm-4pm at Longsight Library and Learning Centre (519 Stockport Rd, M12 4NE):

  • The Portico Library's old Nature Books Handling session (part of their exhibition Second Nature)
  • Alley Mural Ideas with Rebecca Smith, inspired by Portico books (mural to be completed in June)
  • Stop-Motion Animation workshop with Sophie Broadgate, to contribute to a short documentary on their Wellbeing Project
  • Consultation area for a makeover weekend
  • Reading corner with Nature related books selected by Longsight Library staff

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February, 10am-4pm in the alleyway (between Hector Road and Palm St, M13 0GL) and in the nearby green woodland space (corner of Driscoll Street and Duncan Road, M13 0GE)
Big Makeover weekend: Take part in the makeover of the alleyways and Pocket Park with Sow The City and Belongsight, where the BBC will also be filming as part of a new series.
You can volunteer with various gardening and D.I.Y levels to make their dreams come true! Get in touch if you'd like to know more/get involved. The project is also looking for recycled materials such as cans, medium-large pots, sinks, bathtubs, tyres, wooden ladders and pallets.
Cobbled alleyways with step-free access, three steps to neighbours' toilets; green space is step-free, with a small hill, no paths in the grass.

Saturday 22 February, 2pm-4pm at Longsight Library (519 Stockport Rd, M12 4NE):

  • Screen-printing with One69 and The Portico Library Archives
  • Bring your own t-shirt to customise (avoid darker fabric like black or navy, so your design stands out)
  • Reading corner with Nature related books selected by Longsight Library staff

Saturday 14 March, 2pm-4pm at Longsight Library (519 Stockport Rd, M12 4NE):

  • Wellbeing Project Feedback Discussion
  • Stop-Motion Animation Inspired by Nature and Wellbeing with Sophie Broadgate. Learn camera, sound, interview skills and contribute to a short documentary through discussions about the next steps for growing in Longsight

Saturday 28 March, 12pm-2.30pm in the alleyways (between Palm Street, Hector Road, Hamilton Road and Slade Lane, M13 0GL):

  • 12.30pm-1.30pm: Root pruning for plants in Pots with Brenda from Bud Garden Centre
