Manchester Day: ‘Going Global!’ Sunday 22 June 2014 - Call for applications to participate

4 Dec 2013 - 10:55 by michelle.foster

Now its 5th year Manchester Day 2014 will be even bigger, better and more spectacular! With your help, it’s aimed to transform some of Manchester’s city squares into mega parties of amazing décor, mounthwatering food and drink and vibrant performance as well as another wonderful parade celebrating the city of Manchester and what it means to be Mancunian.

This year's theme is Going Global! Manchester City Council are looking for community groups, volunteers, and organisations throughout the city to apply to be part of Manchester Day 2014 and work on the theme with energy, enthusiasm and commitment to turn all the ideas into an amazing day that stuns the crowds and fills the city centre on Sunday 22 June.

There are all sorts of ways you can get involved:
• Groups can work together before the day itself and develop creative ideas consistent with the theme to decorate, animate and perform in the Manchester Day squares or design a float or image, make costumes, or play music as part of the parade
• Most groups would generally be assigned a professional artist by Walk the Plank and work with that artist to develop and realise their creative idea
• Some groups may play music or already have costumes or a float that fit with the theme. Several groups can come together to create a stunning environment for one of the squares or a section of the parade co-ordinated by Walk the Plank

Individuals, small groups, families or anyone else who wants to take part can join larger groups, volunteer on the day or simply help out at Manchester Day’s creative hub, WoW workshop.

Manchester City Council want to encourage as many people as possible across the city to take part
However entry into Manchester Day is subject to a selection process and cannot be guaranteed.

If the event is oversubscribed as in all previous years, priority will be given to:
a) Groups who the steering group feel have put forward the most exciting creative idea
b) Groups who can demonstrate both a commitment in time (e.g. 1 workshop of 2-3 hours per week for 4 weeks) and the capacity and enthusiasm to deliver a quality project
c) Groups who are able to bring some funding or resources to Manchester Day
