The Volunteer Drivers’ Network is an initiative led by Macc to connect organisations across Manchester with individuals who are able to drive and can support with community tasks. Community tasks could involve delivering food packages, transporting a service user or picking up donations, as well as many other tasks which would involve an individual needing to drive.
Organisations would need to upload a role as a community task after registering on the platform. You need to click ‘Register here to add your driving tasks.’ Once you have been accepted by Volunteer Centre Manchester as a registered provider, you are able to add community tasks to the platform.
Once registered, volunteers are able to log in and ‘pick up’ a community task, which would then notify the organisation. You are then able to see more information, including the volunteer’s proximity to the task location and their driving licence, and approve/decline it. If a volunteer does not have their driving licence added on to the platform, you would make arrangements for the volunteer to show you this before the volunteering takes place. If approved, the volunteer is then sent further information that you have put in the task but had been set to private until it was picked up. For example, this information could be the exact address of a service user who the volunteer would need to pick up.
The purpose of the network is to allow for volunteers to pick up various tasks and support multiple organisations, as well as giving an opportunity for individuals who are looking for one-off volunteering, including businesses and employees, to engage with the local voluntary sector.
It will be down to the organisation to provide expenses and you should make it clear in the task whether these can be provided or not.
