The Family Mile programme aims to support and connect communities, empowering them to help one another and to be more active, together, through doing ‘their mile, their way’. Regardless of fitness level, health status, ability, or age, The Mason Foundation provide the starting point, that gentle nudge into fun, easy to do, regular activity.
Join an online event on 4 August, 11am-12pm to hear from The Mason Mile Foundation about the Family Mile they are launching across targeted communities within GM
The Family Mile is a Sport England supported wellbeing initiative, striving to reduce health inequalities, by offering that first step to activity for everyone, with an emphasis on engagement of those from low socio-economic backgrounds, and those with physical and mental wellbeing complications, who may otherwise feel exercise is not for them. It aligns with both the new Sport England strategy ‘Uniting the Movement’ and the government strategic approach to use sport for more social benefit.
The impact of Covid-19 on hard-to-reach communities goes far beyond the period of lockdown, affecting people’s physical and emotional wellbeing, impacting on how they will return to normal life. The Mason Mile can offer an integral step towards connecting communities, promoting socialising and becoming more active in a way that is appropriate for them as part of the wider recovery programme.
The Mason Foundation are seeking Greater Manchester partners who share their mission to support happier, healthier, active and more connected communities.
