MSA LIVE 24 call for projects

MSA LIVE brings together community organisations and architecture students to work on a project for social impact or for community benefit.

honeycomb shapes of a buildingMSA LIVE is an annual programme of ‘Live Projects’ run by Manchester School of Architecture. The programme brings together community organisations and Master of Architecture (M.Arch 1)/ Master of Architecture and Adaptive Reuse students (MAAR) to work together on an active project in Manchester or the North West. The key focus is on social impact and collaboration.

The programme is keen to hear from organisations and community-based groups who would be interested in working with students. Preparation work takes place between January – April 2024, and culminates in 2 action weeks in May 2024 where undergrads, and MLA1 students join the teams. So for 2 weeks, around 16 architecture students would be working full time on a project. To learn more about the MSA LIVE programme visit: https://msa.ac.uk/live/

Previous projects have explored issues such as meanwhile use, climate change, public space design, retrofit, equity in cities, building re-use, biodiversity, preserving heritage and many more (see last year’s projects here).

The students are creative and talented and will bring a fresh perspective to a project. The aim is to give students the opportunity to work outside the university on a real-life project, engaging with citizens on issues that are important to them, and for community organisations it can provide a useful resource of creative and skilled student teams to start or move forward with a proposal or project.
