Nominet Trust - Social Tech Seed Fund

20 Mar 2015 - 12:33 by michelle.foster

Social Tech Seed is an open grant-funding programme that offers early-stage investment to social entrepreneurs and charities that are looking to develop new projects using digital technology for social impact. This programme will provide funding and support to help entrepreneurs nurture, develop and test their ideas.

This programme will provide funding and support to help ventures in developing their ideas into a more robust digital product or service.

Successful ventures can each expect to receive:
• Grant funding, typically between £15,000 and £50,000
• A package of non-financial business support including mentoring, marketing and communications advice and networking opportunities
• Access to a discretionary fund of up to £5,000, should specific expertise be needed to support their early-stage development

In addition:
• Funding will be awarded for a maximum period of 12 months
• Nominet Trust does not ask for an equity stake, nor requests loan repayments
• Successful ventures retain any IP developed with the funding

Nominet Trust are looking for applications that demonstrate the potential of digital technology to tackle some of the big social issues in sectors including education, employability, healthcare and the environment.

Your venture should:
• Already have developed a basic digital prototype, typically having already received a small amount of funding
• Be looking to develop a first proof of concept utilising the prototype
• Have undertaken some feasibility testing with small groups of users and/or beneficiaries to illustrate its potential and demand
• Be responsive to users’ feedback and ideas in both design and development
• Have experience of the social issue you are seeking to address - either directly, or via a co-designed proposition

The deadline form Stage 1 applications: Wednesday 15 April 2015, 12noon
