Non-executive board members for Our Life

12 Dec 2014 - 11:33 by michelle.foster

Our Life is a social enterprise providing consultancy services to organisations in the health, local government and social housing sectors. The core services centre around community engagement and its principles, helping organisations to understand how communities are affected by and can respond to complex issues. Our Life also offer additional services that work together with community engagement such as training, strategy development, impact analysis and advocacy support. Our Life are based in Manchester and work throughout the North West of England and beyond.

Our Life wish to recruit up to three Board members, one of whom will chair the Board’s audit sub-committee.

Our Life need talented people to help them grow and flourish. As a board member you will be the primary force for shaping the organisation’s direction and growth and ensuring it is managed effectively and efficiently within company law.

You will need to be able to make a commitment to Our Life of one full-day and three 3-hour board meetings per year, in central Manchester. Additional time investment would be desirable, for example attending ad hoc Our Life events during the year.

As well as devoting the necessary time you will have a commitment to championing community engagement and mobilisation, a head for identifying new business opportunities and a willingness to speak your mind.

Our Life are keen to hear from people with attributes, skills and experience in one or more of the following areas, but this is not essential as they are eager to achieve a more diverse board and applications are welcomed from all sections of the community:
• Appreciation of social enterprises and the values that underpin Our Life
• Entrepreneurial and good at spotting new opportunities
• Commercial awareness and an attitude to risk commensurate with a small and ambitious social enterprise
• Ability and credibility to actively promote Our Life, in particular to colleagues in the NHS, but also to new audiences

For the role of chair of the Board’s audit sub-committee, a background in finance is essential, and experience in a social housing or other not-for-profit organisation would be highly desirable.

These are voluntary positions and out of pocket expenses paid.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 20 January 2015.
