In Our Nature Community Support

11 May 2023 - 11:16 by michelle.foster

In Our Nature is offering up to £5,000 of indirect financial support to help local communities reduce their carbon emissions. From buying solar panels to helping you switch to energy-efficient appliances.

fundingThe latest IPCC summary report from the UN gave an update on the latest work of climate scientists. This report shows that there is no doubt about the fact that humans have caused global warming, and that we must act fast to curb it.

That’s why between now and 2025, the In Our Nature team will be working with communities across the city to connect the climate crisis to practical actions we can all take to reduce our carbon emissions, improve health and wellbeing, and save money.

In Our Nature want to empower local communities, whether defined by location, interest, identity or experience, to make positive changes in their area by providing support for community-led projects that deliver behaviour change by responding to the needs and priorities of local people.

What support is available?
Successful projects will be supported in a number of ways:

  • Indirect financial support up to the value of £5,000 – for example you determine what you need, and In Our Nature can pay for materials and resources on behalf of your project. In Our Nature cannot give funding to projects directly.
  • Help with delivering your project – you will lead the project, but we can help by linking you up with other networks and groups, help you to assess feasibility, and by supporting with monitoring and evaluation.
  • Publicity – for example by providing materials to help you deliver the project and support with social media.
  • Measuring results – for example carbon savings and impacts on health and wellbeing.

What are In Our Nature looking for?
Projects that take a community-led approach to reducing carbon emissions, which also deliver social and financial benefits to their community. In Our Nature welcome applications focusing on topics including but not limited to:

  • Sharing and repairing activities
  • Promoting active travel
  • Reducing energy use and saving money
  • Curbing food waste

Please note that In Our Nature cannot support projects which solely focus on nature, biodiversity or green spaces but will aim to help you find alternative funding for these projects.
