Today, anyone can walk through the doors of any UK national museum or gallery and experience their permanent collection for free – with no barrier, booking, ID or fee. The 1st December, will mark 25 years of this landmark policy.
Recently, the government has been considering whether to change the policy in England by charging international visitors. That would impact everyone’s visits to the national museums and galleries – from Tate galleries in London and Liverpool to the Walker Art Gallery, from the World Museum to the Science & Industry Museum in Manchester – including those of UK residents.
Ministers have promised an update before the end of this year, but before any decision is made, they need to hear from the public who would be affected.
