Interview participants needed for LSE university research study exploring the links between housing and care in England.
The Greater Manchester Older People's Network recognises the importance of suitable housing as we age and how this can have an impact on various aspects of our wellbeing.
Now, researchers from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) university are carrying out a study looking at characteristics of mainstream housing and people’s care needs such as difficulties with activities of daily living, mobility, or mental health that require some help or support. The study will look at whether the house is owned or rented, the amount of space, how accessible the house is, how warm or free from damp, and if it needs repairs. The study will also look at how people’s housing is linked to the type and amount of help they receive from paid careworkers and/or family and friends.
Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered to take part. Researchers are still looking for up to 8 additional participants. We would like to give you the opportunity to be involved in this research. Those taking part will receive a £40 voucher as a thank you.
Who can take part?
Researchers would like to talk to people aged 65 and older with care needs living in their own homes about their experiences of housing, care needs, and any support they receive and about their preferences and wishes about current and future housing and care options, what is important to them, what choices are available to them, and what would help increase choice.
They would also like to talk to people who support a family member or friend aged 65 and over living in their own home (currently or until very recently) who could not manage without that help about their experiences of housing and of providing care.
What will taking part in the study involve?
A 60-90 minute interview with a researcher in your own home, a local community venue (transport arranged), by phone or by Zoom – your preference.
Interviews will take place from mid-January 2023 onwards at a date and time to suit you.
Those taking part will be offered a £40 voucher as a thank you.
All information will be kept securely, your name will not be used, and anything you say will not identify you or your family. The project is fully data security compliant.
We hope that this research can be used by policy and decision makers to improve housing and social care services and support for older people.
