Paul Hamlyn Foundation - Ideas and Pioneers Fund

3 Sep 2015 - 14:37 by michelle.foster

The Ideas and Pioneers Fund supports people who have an idea with unusual promise to improve the life chances and opportunities of individuals and communities in the UK. The Paul Hamlyn Foundation are looking for ideas which relate closely to their own charitable mission – they aim to help people overcome disadvantage and lack of opportunity, so that they can realise their potential and enjoy fulfilling and creative lives.

The Paul Hamlyn Foundation want to work with people whose ideas are in the early stages of development. You will be committed to making your idea happen, and will have done some initial work to develop it, but it will still be at an early stage.

Organisations can apply for funding up to £30,000 over up to 18 months to help you get started, and introduce you to a group of peers for mutual support. The Paul Hamlyn Foundation will consider funding work to enable you to develop the idea from concept to set-up, including problem definition and analysis, scoping, exploratory work, and prototyping.

The Paul Hamlyn Foundation understand that ideas are driven by the passion of the people who hold them, so this fund is open to individuals, teams working independently and small organisations.

About your idea
• Ideas should relate closely to PHF’s own charitable mission –to help people overcome disadvantage and lack of opportunity, so that they can realise their potential and enjoy fulfilling and creative lives
• Ideas should be in the early stages of development. That said, you should have done some initial work that shows your commitment and the idea’s potential, regardless of how long you have had your idea
• PHF are ready to be the first funder to support an idea, although you might have applied elsewhere
• PHF will not be able to provide follow-on funding for most of the ideas that are supported – PHF want to know why their funding is important to you and what you hope it will help you to achieve
• PHF don’t mind taking a risk with a great idea – and know that some ideas are not going to work out.

The closing dates are:
• 14 Sept 2015
• 12 Oct 2015
• 9 Nov 2015

There will be more funding rounds in 2016.
