Small grants for improving the safety of UK roads

The Road Safety Trust provides funding to public and professional UK organisations for projects that are innovative and will enhance the knowledge and practice of the road safety community. fundingFunding for projects which contribute to a reduction in road-related deaths and injury.

Applications are accepted from local authorities, police forces, fire and rescue services or UK based registered charities, legally constituted not-for-profit social enterprises or community interest companies.

The Small Grants Programme supports projects on their way to making a tangible difference on the roads, with the Spring 2022 round focusing for the first time on supporting previously funded and completed projects to the implementation stage.

Grants of £10,000 to £30,000 over two years are on offer, from a total funding pot of £180,000.

Interventions should concern one of the following priority areas for reducing road casualties:

  • Community Corners – a low cost, community-led street design approach to traffic calming
  • Mobile Engaged –tackling mobile phone use by drivers
  • Improving Driver Behaviour through Mindfulness – to trial mindfulness research in a practical way to improve road safety at either a local, regional or national level
  • Targeting Road Injury Prevention (TRIP) – using data and intelligence to understand who is causing serious collisions and to develop road safety campaigns
